Attorney Serrat has been involved in numerous federal, state, municipal civil and criminal trials. She has extensive experience conducting legal research and drafting complex legal memorandum, including motions to suppress, Sixth Circuit appellate briefs, and 8th District appellate briefs. Attorney Serrat is a CJA panel member for the Northern District of Ohio. Well versed in federal criminal sentencing issues and the complexities that arise in a federal criminal litigation, including Title III wiretaps and Fourth Amendment violations.
In United States v. Cota Luna, 17-3692, the Defendant was originally sentenced to 120 months, and after a successful appeal to the Sixth Circuit, the case was remanded back for re-sentencing to 33 months. In United States v. Pedicini, 19-3021, the Defendant's Motion to Suppress was denied by the District Court and he was sentenced to 100 months imprisonment. The Sixth Circuit reversed the decision of the District Court and the Defendant's case was dismissed.
Recently, Attorney Serrat was able to successfully obtain compassionate releases for five (5) inmates during the COVID-19 pandemic in Northern District of Ohio case numbers: 5:17CR200, 4:19CR215, 1:17CR513, 1:14CR329, and 1:19CR707.
She is a member of the Federal Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, Cuyahoga Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, Cleveland Hispanic Bar Association, and National Hispanic Bar Association. Attorney Serrat also volunteers her time to the 3Rs - Rights Responsibilities - Realities program where members of the Cleveland legal community partner with local inner city schools to personally connect with high school students to address fundamental real-world issues the Students face, focusing on the U.S. Constitution.

Personal History
Marisa Serrat is the second daughter of Jaime and Kelly Serrat. Attorney Serrat was born and raised in Westlake, Ohio and attended Westlake High School where she graduated with high honors in 2004. She was president of her class and a member of the National Honor Society. After high school, Attorney Serrat attended Clemson University in South Carolina where she graduated with honors and obtained a degree in Business Marketing and Advertising on May 11, 2008. She was a member of the Clemson University Marketing Association, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and many other student organizations.
Attorney Marisa L. Serrat began her legal career working for Jaime P. Serrat, LLC in 2008. Marisa Serrat obtained her Juris Doctorate from Saint Louis University School of Law on May 21, 2011. In law school, she was an active member of the Hispanic Law Students Association, Womens Law Students Association, and Phi Alpha Delta. Attorney Serrat obtained a specialization in Civil Litigation and worked for the Saint Louis University Legal Clinic Civil Division in 2010. Marisa Serrat supports many local charities, as well as national charitable organizations, such as the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation, Steven G. AYA Cancer Research Fund, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the Clemson University Alumni Association. |
